Our sponsorship comes up for renewal. What does it have to prove first?

Signal detected

The Digiday piece on how the Chicago Bulls retooled their sponsorship business (Sam Bradley, 30 June 2026) names the tension exactly: as sponsorship spend rises, CMOs now demand hard evidence to justify deals, and the properties are scrambling to supply it. Your renewal will not be judged on what the sponsorship did; it will be judged on what you can prove it did, and those are different conversations.

Strategic direction

What you are competing for is not the sponsorship, it is control of the evidence standard, and right now the market conditions hand that control to you if you take it. Design the intelligence layer first, define what proof looks like, then negotiate; production and activation come second. Monday: write the one-page proof standard and send it to the property before they send you a renewal deck. The question I would open a two-day session with: if this sponsorship disappeared tomorrow and nobody told your customers, what specifically would you expect to change in their behavior, and do you currently have any way to see it?
